StreamGaffer iPhone app · last updated 10 October 2026

This explains what the StreamGaffer iPhone app does with your information. In short: we do not run any servers for the app, we have no accounts, and we do not collect, sell or share your personal information.

Who we are

The app is made by Richard Nelson (StreamGaffer). Contact: feedback@streamgaffer.com.

What the app talks to

The app connects only to StreamGaffer running on your own Windows PC, on your own home network, over an encrypted connection. It refuses addresses that are not on a private home network. Everything it shows (what is playing, your receiver, TV and services) comes from your PC and goes no further than your phone.

What is stored on your iPhone

Disconnecting in the app's Settings removes the pairing from your phone.

Camera

The camera is used only to scan the pairing QR code shown on your PC. Nothing is recorded or saved.

Local network

The app asks to use your local network so it can reach your PC at home.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, your PC can send you alerts, for example when the receiver disconnects. To deliver them, the app registers a push-notification token with Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging, and passes that token to your own PC so it knows where to send alerts. The token is not tied to your name or any account. You can turn alerts off in the app or in iPhone Settings.

What we do not do

The demo

"Try the demo" in the app uses pretend data built into the app. It makes no network connection and saves nothing.

Children

The app is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
